You don’t need to have all the answers, just start with what you’re seeing. Individually, these signs can have many explanations, including normal aging. But when they appear together or gradually increase over time, it may be time to speak with your veterinarian.

Check any changes in your dog that feel familiar:

Behavioral Changes

Drinking more water than usual

Needing to go out more often or having accidents

Eating more than usual or seeming constantly hungry

Low energy or less interest in activity

Physical Changes

Weight gain, especially around the belly — pot belly

Muscle weakness or difficulty jumping

Panting more than usual — even at rest

Appearance Changes

Thinning coat or fur loss

Skin that seems thinner or more fragile

Changes in coat quality

Pot belly or sagging abdomen
